“Hosted by Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert of the Comedy Central network, the event was called the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear, with barbs pointed at popular culture, politicians and especially cable TV news - all meant to coax Americans back to a more civil way of disagreeing.”—Bigger than Beck? Huge crowd attends Restore Sanity rally | McClatchy
Joe and Lisa I got you each a “Rally to Restore Sanity” towel they were passing out for free. E mail me your address (I promise I won’t stalk you). If you don’t have my e mail address let me know in the comment section of this post. I have each of yours and can send you an e mail you can respond to with your address.
The energy that got me to the rally is gone. I am exhausted. But what an incredible experience. I am more optimistic about this county than I have been in a long time. To see so many people coming together for sanity was wonderful.
And it wasn’t just college age kids who watch comedy central. It was everybody! It really was. And the crowd was fucking huge! They just kept coming and coming. It was overwhelming.
At the airport a group of us waiting for the bus to DC realized we were all going to the same place so we chipped in for a van to get us there faster. Some were from Las Vegas (they were on the same plane as I was) a couple were from Texas and one was from GERMANY. I guess I can quit bragging now…..
The police were there but not a obvious presence. Everyone was well mannered (that I saw).
All in all a once in a lifetime experience that I will not soon forget. My last post tonight will be of some of the buildings and memorials from the area. After that will be an instant watch Netfix movie, some champagne and shut eye.
The Daily Show’s call for a Rally to Restore Sanity has been answered by our politically vibrant community here in Seattle, to take place this weekend, 9 a.m. until noon at Westlake Park in downtown Seattle. Attendance is typically high and excited in Seattle fashion, with organizers…
Hey Lisa don’t feel left out! Here is a rally close to where you live. I’m so scared of flying that had I know this was going to happen I probably would have just gone to the Seattle rally. Oh well, I’ve got my tickets, hotel reservations and permission to leave work early.
is going global according to this article - this is fantastic. It demonstrates that this is not just an American phenomonom (spelling?) but rather that it is wide spread amongst all of our brothers and sisters.
There’s a possibility that I might get some epic chopper photos in a little bit. There has been smoke for like 45 minutes and it’s coming and going, because it’s still slightly windy. About 10 minutes ago I could see flames that were at least 30 feet high. I drove back there on a golf cart and tons of underbrush is scorched.
I called it in and they’re sending people out. The thing is, you can’t get a truck back there. I’m actually silently freaking out because its 10 acres away at the most and all these trees with dead leaves lead right up to my house. I’ve got my cell phone ready in case they send one of those forest fire choppers.
calling out the Tea Party candidates and their supporters - people like Rush, Beck, the various PACs, and the US Chamber of Commerce.
I’m an unabashed Keith fan. I like his intelligent and masterful way with words and thought that goes into his rants. It’s my understanding he pretty much writes these himself - and this is exceptional (of course, I think they all are).
This is good and I highly recommend either reading the text or watching it for the “full” effect:
This afternoon after class, I was sitting on our hill in a giant field with my dog just chillin in the 50 mph wind and soaking up the sun. I have no idea how warm it was, but it was fucking beautiful. It’s 41 degrees right now and I’m shiverring beneath 2 comforters. I really don’t want to turn the heat on yet. I will not surrender my fucking summer!
“(Oct. 27) — With just days remaining before tens of thousands of Americans plan to flock to Washington, D.C., to rally in support of their television heroes, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert picked up a last-minute item to ensure that the event will go smoothly: a permit to hold it. On Wednesday afternoon, the National Park Service formally issued the Comedy Central hosts the piece of paper certifying that their dueling Oct. 30 events — “Rally to Restore Sanity” and “March to Keep Fear Alive” — have been officially sanctioned, The Wall Street Journal reported.”—
our government, politics, religion, anything at all? What really makes you see red, makes your blood boil, or mutter underneath your breath WTF?

I think that all the talking heads are missing the mark about what people are so angry about. They spout fancy theories when I believe the truth is much simpler than 75 cent words and PhDs or think tanks make it out to be.
“An international consortium of scientists says it has identified and catalogued the vast majority of genetic variations among people, a huge step toward the ultimate goal of mapping nearly all such differences in humans’ biological blueprints. The project, which will cost $120 million over five years, is expected to speed efforts to study the roles genes play in many diseases, including diabetes and coronary ailments.”—Most Human Gene Variations Identified, Scientists Report - WSJ.com
This is an interesting article that just appeared at Yahoo Finance about who the winners and losers are over the past two years of the Obama Presidency. For some funny reason, this is no surprise to me (I hate to say).
